Dear COVID-19

Dear COVID-19,

(Can also be addressed as “fear, panic)

You are boggling the minds of brilliant scientists and stumping the most innovative doctors. You have society questioning tomorrow’s future. You have infected, squeezed, and maneuvered your way into over a hundred countries. You have taken people out of jobs, plummeted the stock market, and cleared the grocery store shelves. You have proven to be fierce, powerful, and unpredictable.

I’m just a teacher; I’m no doctor, scientist, or politician. I can’t make some scientific hypothesis about where you came from to get you to go away and I can’t diagnose you; let alone combat a cure for you.

There is a lot about you that I don’t know. In life, I’ve learned that when I don’t know about something, unsure how to navigate from here, to go back to what I do know. Roots.

I don’t know if you have roots. I however, am rooted. “Blessed is the man who trusts in the lord. He is like a tree planted by the water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes”. Jeremiah 17:7

I don’t know where you came from- but I however know exactly who created me. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart.” Jeremiah 1:5

I don’t know what your future looks like. However, I’m told of my future exactly. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

I know you think you’re powerful. However, I know someone that even you can’t defeat. “ You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so none is able to withstand you. 2 Chronicles 20:6

So COVID-19, while I’m not usually so upfront, I have a powerful God on my side. And while I’m not medically or scientifically educated, I’m fully aware of where my future (and my family’s future) stands. I really think you’re in over your head. My God will save his people. And as for you, well, you will just be an old blog post I wrote a letter to once during a pandemic.
